Another neglected shepherd - Welcome Floh ❤️

This poor shepherd has an owner!

Approx. 3x the week we pass by this house on our way to Jessy, treated this only 2 year old male dog against bad rash when he was a puppy…a few days ago a neighbour told us that the dog has a bad ear infection. When we arrived there he was doing bad. You could see his pain, suffering alone in the backyard 😔 When we unveiled the bandage they put one day before we saw the ear had already been eaten by maggots and therefore it is lost. The owners just didn’t treat a small wound and so this animal had to suffer horrible pain for a long time 😪 we immediately brought him to vet and he will need many more treatments until he will hopefully be recovered. In addition to his ear wound he has another abcsess which had to be removed and he is very weak and malnourished. We will take care and also will have to pay the ongoing treatments since the family does not have the money or does not want to spend it for their dog. We don’t know. But we know this must not be the reason why this innocent animal is suffering and eventually dying! Please support us 🙏

We miss our Chilli since New Year 😭

Our Chilli is so deeply missing since the fireworks 😢 she was one of the dogs we rescued as a puppy when she was more dead than alive. She was the best bodyguard in my life…

Someone put a rocket to our gate where Chilli was hiding. She ran to the jungle and never returned.
I miss you so deeply my dear Chilli ❤️ I am so much sorry we could not protect you from these ugly human fireworks 😪

UPDATE: Mummy & her last baby

Mummy and her last remaining baby-boy died on deadly parvovirus.

This whole family had to die because humans put them to the street without any conscience... we are so sad for what they had to go through 😢

Sad UPDATE: Mummy & her 5 babies 

Sadly four of the five pups have been killed in accidents until today 😔 The place they‘ve been dumped was just too dangerous…it hurts much to find each one of them dead every day. We don’t have any more space at our house for taking in again 6 dogs…we tried our best to take daily care of them, hoping they will survive the street life somehow…but like so many times we are just powerless.

Today we wanted to neuter the mother but she is in no good condition. Since two days she didn’t eat anything and today she laid on the street very weakly. So we brought her to vet and afterwards to our home. What she is suffering from is not clear today but her body is definitely weak from parasites. She gets antibiotics at the moment. We hope she can recover. Her remaining baby which is still fit is also at our home.

These dogs will stay with us somehow. They will never feel hunger again and can now relax on a cosy blanket ☺️

Please help us to take care of all these destinies. We cannot make it alone! 🙏

Another 5 puppies and their mummy were dumped close to our house 😣 we will take care but their life is always in danger at the busy road...we just hope for a good destiny 🙏 Our village is so full of dogs now…we really don’t know how to handle this situation anymore at the moment 😢

UPDATE Nito: He is doing much better now ! 🙌

Nito's physical wounds are healing well but his soul might be hurt for a lifetime 😔 He still needs intense vet treatment every few days but he is slowly recovering! 😊 Now he is starting to eat "normal" dog food and he goes for little walks in our garden. We also built a hut for him to integrate him gently to our other dogs.

Another sad victim of cruel neglect 😢 - Welcome Nito ❤️

Some days ago a man asked us to look for a shepherd very close to our house which has a maggot infected paw and was suffering a lot in his cage. Every time we passed by no one was at home and also no dog to see. Yesterday evening we finally met the owner. They took a giant shepherd out of a tiny cage. His condition was horrible. Besides his heavily infected paw he has wounds all over his body which were all infected with maggots. No one took care anymore of this poor soul, not even water they gave him…we brought him late evening to vet who took one hour to remove hundreds of maggots. Afterwards we again removed many more at home. Maggots in his penis, maggots in his anus and in many wounds of his exhausted body. His back paw is already eaten much by them. It’s not clear if he can keep it. We have to take him for treatment to vet now every second day and he needs intense care. At the moment he is in our small room and has a big bed for himself 😊 This situation is of course not meant to be forever. Our house is full up to the roof. We have to find a solution as soon as he is better. He will of course not return to his owners. Anyway they don’t want him anymore. Today (!) they moved out of the house. If we didn’t come yesterday this dog would have been eaten alive by maggots and nobody would have noticed. These people wanted to leave him behind to die. Since weeks they didn’t take anymore care, felt disgusted by him and planned to leave the house without him. However, they are the ones who produced his suffering. If they hadn’t neglected him and treated his wounds from the beginning it would never have turned out this way. Just so cruel!

We don’t know if he will make it. It will be a long way to nurse him back to health.

UPDATE: "Aliya-dog" ("elephant-dog")

Sadly, this very sick dog passed away 😢 We saw him the last time approx. 10 days ago. It was evening and we gave him food. This time I could touch him and lift him up. He was weak and in his eyes I saw that he was giving up life and ready to accept help. I will never forget the way he looked at me…from that moment on we decided to do all we can to help him anyhow. The next day we bought some medicine which we‘ve been told might work. We were looking for him every day but never saw him again 😔

Yesterday the service station where he used to stay from time to time told us that one of his ulcers bursted and he went under some wood to die.

The worst is not that he died. It is a relief for him. The worst is how he died. A life full of suffering and even his death must have been so painful. All alone. This thought makes incredibly sad…

We are so sorry that no one was with you old boy. There where you are now you will never have pain again ❤️

Today a tourist asked us for help for this poor dog who was staggering on the street in our area. We fed him some days before but he was very shy. Today his condition was extremely bad. We caught him and brought him to vet. This poor boy is suffering from distemper which is a highly contagious virus, effecting the nerv system and leading slowly to death. Since we don't have space for a sick dog like him we asked our dear friend Christina from Dog Passion Sri Lanka to take him to her place. She agreed though there is nearly no chance for healing 😔 We wish this sweet boy all the best! 🙏❤️

Welcome Sophie ❤️

Yesterday we were informed about this poor girl in our neighbourhood. She had an accident and laid already 3 days with an infected wound in some hidden place full of garbage. The bakery next to gave her some milk and sweet pastries. Good intention but of course not helpful. Unfortunately no one had the idea that this dog needs urgently vet‘s help…So we picked her and brought her to vet. Besides her biting wounds from other dogs and the infected wound on her stomach she suffered a pelvis fracture from the accident. We have to make an x-ray tomorrow in another town to know more details.

Though she was in bad condition yesterday she is feeling so much better today 😊 she cannot really move but she has a good appetite. We will nurse her back to health the next weeks and spoil her much ☺️ She is now in our last remaining (dog-) free room (our sleeping room ;-)) where she can relax and recover.

Her bad luck is in the end the best that could happen to her 🍀 This little girl will also stay with us somehow ❤️

A new emergency 🆘 - Anni

Today we were called for this baby girl which had been hit badly by a vehicle. For one day and one night this poor dog laid helplessly on the street with a totally destroyed leg. Of course we had to take her with us. Every human ignoring such a suffering is inhuman! Her leg had to be amputated and she is now at our home. Still we don’t know if her spine is broken. She is crying much in pain and cannot get up at all 😞 In few days we have to take her to vet again. We will take care of this poor doggy and hopefully nurse her back to health with much Love. She will never ever again suffer from hunger, pain or fear through a human hand.

Every day we find dogs in need. This flood of emergency cases is overwhelming us 😢 in the meantime we have 30 dogs at our house and could take in new ones every day if we had the space. They all need daily care in addition to many dogs on the street which need us so much. Besides the emotional burden the financial one grows for us every day. Still we pay all ourself. For how long we can continue this?? We urgently need regular sponsors, please support us! 🙏

Our Nelly left us unexpectedly 😢

Nelly was brought to us last November by our workers who found her on their way to us while her sibling was hit deadly by a car in front of their eyes. She was only few weeks old. Some time later our big July caught her in a little rough way while playing and damaged her spine. Since there is no possibility of a proper medical treatment for those cases in Sri Lanka her recovery took many weeks. As she started to make progress in walking her leg was hit by a big stone on our land. It was a complicated fracture and needed to be fixed with a nail for some weeks…since Nelly was still growing and her spine and leg were too weak after these damages it was again difficult for her to learn walking on 4 paws. But she was fine with her situation and lived without any pain together with Dana and July (which she loved so much :-)) in a separate area. Two days ago a big jackfruit fell down there, hurt July’s leg and hit Nelly deadly.😢

She had so much bad luck in her short life. 😔 3x she could escape her death. Sometimes it feels like in „Final Call“ - and in the end you have to go anyway…

Nelly was also on of our „special“ dogs. Our giant-baby-Alien with a very big head on her small body. She was funny and so tough! I loved my Nelly and she loved me.❤️

We are so sorry you couldn’t spend more time with us. 😢

Today we found this poor male dog in our neighbourhood. His testicles are completely destroyed by an open tumour. Additionally he has wounds all over his body and could hardly walk. He must have lived already some weeks with this incredible pain…We brought him to the vet where he received the first treatment. Tomorrow his testicles will be removed. Since this dog can not be put back to the street in his horrible condition our dear friend Christina from Dog Passion Sri Lanka took him in for recovery. 🙏

UPDATE: Unfortunately, this doggy passed away on August 15. After a short recovery the cancer came bag quickly...

Today we found these two dogs in very miserable condition 😔

Rasika spotted this only approx. 5 months old black puppy 1.5 km from our home in the jungle. This male puppy was malnourished, full of rash and on top of it some evil person put hot water on him (see left side picture). People here often do so to street dogs which are just looking for a human hand and something to eat so desperately 😔 We should need to take her in urgently but we have not any space. Our heart is bleeding again for this destiny ❤️‍🩹 However, since we feed her regularly and give medicine she is now much better (see right side picture). 

This poor male dog is suffering from Elephantitis. This disease results from a mosquito bite and is very difficult to treat. We believe he already lives for several years with these big legs. We cannot imagine the horrible pain he must have! 😢

Again we had to take in four more very tiny puppies. Theiy were only a few days old, their eyes still closed. Since they have no chance to survive without their mummy we took them home. We bottlefeeded them every two hours and raised them with much love and care!

We tried to raise both on the street. Unfortunately, the brown-white girl died in an accident today. 😢 Rasika came minutes later and found the totally confused and shocked sister next to the dead baby. Of course we had to take her home. She has no chance so alone on the street.

Since days we couldn’t get these two babies out of our head as they are actually too small to raise them on the street. We saw this bad luck almost coming like so often. But what to do? We are just the two of us. We cannot take them all and are already on our limit at our house 😔 Also the costs for food and treatments increase with every destiny.

UPDATE: Sad news about „the dog without hair“

Unfortunately this nameless dog died on Sunday. We heard from a reliable source that a nurse (this dog also lived close to a hospital) gave her some human medicine, which people here regularly do without any knowledge (!) against her bad rash.

We‘ve been treating this dog since 2 months with our vet and now would have been time to go to vet again. She was doing so much better! And now this happened…We are so sad 😞 The owner himself told us that he was gone for three days and told his neighbour to feed his dogs. So what is the truth? We will never find out.

Babies, babies, babies - this country is drowning in puppies!😔

Almost daily we get calls for dumped puppies or we find ourself. Today 2x. At a cemetery in Bentota someone dumped four approx. 3 weeks old babies. At another place near to the hospital where we take care of some dogs, we found two little bigger ones. We really don’t know anymore where to put all the dogs… if they are not very small we try to take care of them on the street. But what to do with those tiny ones? 🥺 To leave them on the street is 100 % lethal…

We are sad and angry. Angry of a government, doing NOTHING, except „cleaning“ the streets every few years in a very brutal way - knowing - that this is only a short-term and very unbuddhist solution. Angry of the people‘s attitude who don’t neuter their dogs though organizations like Dog Passion Sri Lanka and DCC offer it for free. Instead, they put the small babies (especially girls) to the street like garbage or kill them. We are desperate and the misery increases daily. 😔

We need to find and rent a property to continue rescuing these poor souls and give them a save place. Since we are no organization and still finance all by ourselves we urgently need regularly support. Please help us!

UPDATE: Sweet Fritzi ❤️

Sweet Fritzi we had to bring to vet for the 4. time. After he got 3 Chemo shots his stomach tumor didn’t get much better. That’s why today we had to remove the tumor. Now Fritzi has a big wound. But on the street with the heavy rain nowadays he can not recover. That’s why we decided to take him to our home. Though we have not any space for new dogs…but we have to find a way for him. Cross your fingers for this kind dog!

He is such a tolerating dog, lets us do all treatments with him and you definitely get the feeling that he knows we help him.

Fritzi ❤️

We found Fritzi approx. 4 weeks ago at one of our feeding spots. He was „new“ at this place and we believe he was dumped there because he has cancer. He has TVT cancer at two places. Stomach and penis. So we started chemotherapy. Fritzi is a very friendly and trustful dog. Without any trouble he lets me take him on my arm to the vet every time. He is just very lovely. Until now he got 3 shots and the cancer on his penis already vanished 😊 more chemotherapy will be necessary to eliminate all cancer. We give him his many medication three times a day on the street and treat him strictly on instruction. With this treatment he has the best chances to recover. ☺️Please cross your fingers for sweet Fritzi!🫰🥰

Lucky has no more luck 😢

Today the DCC told us that Lucky is doing worse. His legs are still rotting and no one knows why. All treatments failed and he is suffering much from this pain. That’s why we decided to let him go and hope he will do better wherever he might be. Now we have to explain to that girl - who is calling every day in tears and asking when he is coming back - that he will not return 😔 but…one of our streetdogs we are feeding there has gotten three babies which she already takes lovely care of. So she has a new task 🥰 And of course we support her!

UPDATE: Lucky - sad news 😔

Unfortunately, Lucky‘s condition got extremely bad within one week. His all four paws are rotting and nobody knows why 😢 all treatments with different vets here have not been successful because they still don’t know from what exactly he is suffering. So we had to hand him over to the dog care clinic today (https://www.dogcare-clinic.com) in the south and we hope they can help him. Unfortunately it does not look good for him. They may have to remove his dying paws…maybe he can never walk again… we donated 50 EUR because they are also dependent on donations to cover the treatment costs and they do such a great work for the strays in Sri Lanka! In total we have spent at least 150 EUR for this dog and the end is still open…we will bring him back to his place on the street if he recovers

Lucky ❤️

We called this dog Lucky. He was lucky in two ways. At first we could save his life because we brought him to the vet just in time and could stabilize him with infusions and medical treatment. He is doing much better today! Until now it is not clear from what exactly he is suffering. He showed poisoning signs and we‘ve been told that a nurse sprayed his whole body with an anti-tick product and he probably licked it…At second he was lucky because a 15 year old girl took responsibility and cares for him very well. She made him a safe place at her grandmother‘s yard, gives him water, food and our medicine. Yes, here they are, the good people on the island! And we are so happy that a young girl is such a nice example. These are the ones that make hope. Hope for a change which is needed so urgently.

Again a very sick owner dog 😔

This only two-year old female we spotted on our feeding tour. We‘ve been told that she has an owner. Unfortunately, like many people here he ignores her suffering and does not treat her. Instead he asked some unqualified vet who told him to shower and rubb (!) her skin. Accordingly, after this „treatment“ her skin was full of wounds. We don’t want to imagine her pain during this procedure…we are again speechless…So we brought her to our vet. Among other things she is suffering from heavy rash und skin fungus. Additionally she has many small wounds all over her body. We could agree with the owner (who lives in a nice, clean house and does not belong to the poor people) that he gives her the prescribed daily medicine. He also gave her a place in a hut in his garden. We will pass by every day to check how she is doing, give her vitamins and our meal. Also we will continue vet treatment for longer time until she is fully recovered. It is unbelievably sad how people let it come so far and for how long this dog had to go through so much pain 😢 Also these costs we carry ourselves. They will amount up to at least 50 €, depending on the duration of treatment.

Today was again an emotional exhausting day 😣

Again we had to take in two 3 weeks old babies which we found accidentally in the jungle. Exceptionally we took another road on our feeding tour…someone dumped the two girls in the middle of nowhere to die since in this area there is nearly no chance for help. For some reason we had to find them. How can people be so cruel and heartless? Some minutes later we found a very sick dog and brought him to vet. Unfortunately we don’t have any more space on our house for adult dogs so we had to put him back on the street. But we will also continue treatment with our vet for this poor dog the next days to give him a survival chance. How to manage this all? The flood of dogs in need makes us much headache! It will never stop as long as people don’t change their attitude and ignore the suffering.
